Multifunctional dress with embroidery on the hem.

Mapula Embroideries has been collaborating with the University of Pretoria’s Consumer and Food Sciences Department since 2019. Unique pieces of clothing with beautiful embroidery are created by the student and women from Mapula Embroideries, while at the same time skills are being transferred to assist community members to market their products successfully. This past year, fashionable clothing items were again made by the final-year Clothing Retail Management students and embroidered by the women of Mapula Embroideries.  These items are for the first time now for sale in the Mapula Online Shop.

The clothes are made of 100% locally sourced cotton fabric/recycled denim. Part of the proceeds of sales will go to the students to cover some of their costs and the rest to the embroiderers. We hope you are going to be thrilled by this project and the items for sale as we are!

This item was designed and made by a final-year student in Clothing and Retal Management in the Consumer and Food Sciences Department at the University of Pretoria and embroidered by women from the Winterveld near Pretoria.

  • The clothes are made of 100% locally sourced cotton fabric/recycled denim. The embroidery is done in Elle Crochet No. 5 thread, made in South Africa from imported acrylic raw material. It is washable. Iron face down on a towel with a steam iron. Don’t use a very hot iron as the thread is synthetic and can melt.
